Taj Coromandel, an iconic symbol of luxury and tradition in the heart of Chennai that celebrated 50 Years of unmatched hospitality and timeless sophistication, marked the beginning of the festive season with its much-awaited annual Christmas Cake Mixing Ceremony. This year`s celebration held special significance as the hotel also celebrated the momentous 120th anniversary of the Taj brand, a legacy steeped in timeless elegance.
The cake mixing ceremony, an age-old tradition symbolizing warmth, cheer and goodwill, was more significant this year as guests and associates joined hands to honour the enduring heritage of Taj and ring in the joy of the Christmas season. The hotel wore a festive look as eager participants, donning their Santa caps and aprons, came together to usher in the festive cheer. Approximately 1000 kilograms of exquisite dry fruits and nuts, including raisins, black currant, dates, figs, almonds, cashew nuts, tuttyfruiti, red currants and dried cherries, were mixed with aromatic spices such as 5 kilograms each of cinnamon and ginger powder, along with 15 kilograms of ground spices. The mélange was generously infused with 250 litres of spirits.
Sharing his thoughts on this occasion, Ronald Menezes, Hotel Manager, Taj Coromandel, Chennai said, "It was a fun-filled evening at Taj Coromandel, Chennai as we came together to mix all the ingredients during the traditional cake mixing ceremony, setting the stage for a season of celebration and joy. This year`s cake mixing ceremony was particularly special as it celebrated Taj`s incredible 120-year journey. The carefully prepared mixture will be sealed in airtight casks and used later to create indulgent treats for the upcoming festive season."
The evening also featured a delightful selection of dishes, starting with appetizing bites such as Red Bean and English Cheddar Rissoles; Spring Vegetable Parcels with Sweet Chilli Dip; Beetroot Aranccini Dumplings with Garlic Mayo; Brie and Asparagus Canapés; and Agro Dolce Pepper Canapés. The cakes included options like Dundee Cake, Victoria Cake, Lemon Butter Cream Cake, and Almond Cake. Guests were also treated to a festive array of desserts under Jingle Bells, including the Almond & Hazelnut Xmas House; Pistachio Torte; Chocolate Hazelnut Tuile; Plum Cake; Plum Pudding; and Yule Logs. A dedicated Say Cheese station showcased premium selections such as Pecorino, Scamorza, English Red Cheddar, Camembert, and Truffle Cheese, served with accompaniments of crackers, nuts, grapes, caramelized figs, and olives. For those with a penchant for indulgence, the Fondue Station offered Red Wine and White Chocolate Fondue, paired with Marshmallows, Macaroons, and Fresh Berries. Guests also enjoyed an assortment of Cookies & Bars, featuring Red Velvet, Biscotti, Triple Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Honey & Oat, complemented by Tea, Coffee, and the quintetessential Mulled Wine. The takeaway gifts included Plum Cake and Plunged Candied Orange.
