Weather Alert: Torrential Rains Expected in Chennai and Surrounding Coasts - Tamil Nadu Weatherman

The Depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified, now reaching close to 30 knots (cyclone status is achieved at 35 knots, after which it will be named). With the relaxation of wind shear, the system is expected to strengthen further, potentially reaching 40-45 knots.

The system shows significant cloud convection, indicating strengthening. Weather models predict it will breach 35 knots soon, with official confirmation from meteorological agencies awaited.

Though wind speed is not a major concern at present, the primary issue lies with the intense rainfall associated with the system.

As the system progresses, very heavy to extreme rains are expected along the KTCC (Kanchipuram-Tiruvallur-Chennai) to Marakkanam coasts starting today (29th November) and intensifying tomorrow (30th November). 30th November will require close monitoring for potential flooding and extreme weather conditions in Chennai and surrounding areas.
