Tamil Nadu witnessed one of its heaviest monsoon days in recent history, with almost every district recording significant rainfall.

  • Manjolai Oothu: A staggering 500 mm rainfall recorded.
  • Mayiladuthurai-Cuddalore Belt: Pounded with around 300 mm of rainfall.
  • Thoothukudi-Kovilpatti: Over 350 mm, marking an exceptional day for rainfall.
  • Courtallam: Experienced historic water flows due to heavy rains.
  • Dindigul: Recorded substantial rainfall across the district.
  • Perambalur-Ariyalur: Saw massive downpours.
  • Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar: Also received heavy rainfall.
  • Ranipet (Near KTCC): Torrential rains resulted in significant run-offs into Nandhiyar, leading to Poondi dam inflows nearing 13,000 cusecs. Water release from the dam has been increased to 12,000 cusecs.

In Tenkasi, Ayikudi recorded over 300 mm of rainfall, with the entire district experiencing a drastic recovery in Northeast Monsoon (NEM) performance, pushing it into excess territory within a single day.

However, Chennai (KTCC) remained completely dry, with no rainfall recorded. Surplus water from Chembarambakkam and Puzhal reservoirs is being released to manage inflows.

Authorities are closely monitoring the water levels and have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert.
