The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has floated a tender for constructing a foot overbridge with lifts and stairs on Race Course Road to enhance commuter safety at Guindy MRTS Station. The project will replace a British-era bridge that violates safety norms. A joint initiative by GCC and Southern Railway, it is funded under the World Bank’s Chennai City Partnership at an estimated cost of ₹9.86 crore and is expected to be completed within one year. The 12-metre-wide bridge will connect all five platforms to the eastern entrance on Race Course Road and the western entrance near the Metro station on G.S.T. Road. The new structure aims to improve pedestrian connectivity and ease access to the bus stand, benefiting thousands of daily commuters. However, passengers urge authorities to expedite construction, as only two pillars have been erected so far.
