TRAINING PROGRAM- CUM-DEMONSTRATION FOR TRAIN PASSENGERS
A training program-cum-demonstration was organised for the benefit of train passengers on 24.03.2014, Monday on platform no.6 at Chennai Central railway station under the leadership of Shri. S. Vijaya Kumaran, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway in the presence of Shri. S. Anantharaman, Chief Safety Officer-cum-Chief Operations Manager, Southern Railway, Shri. S. Mohan Raja, ADRM / II / Chennai and other Railway Officers.
The training program for passengers included educating them to operate a fire extinguisher and put out a live fire & educating them to escape from a railway coach, in case of fire or other emergencies, through the ‘emergency exit windows’.
To attain these twin objectives, an AC 3-tier coach and second class 3-tier coach were placed on platform no.6; fifteen fire extinguishers were also made available.
The passengers were briefed on ‘how to use a fire extinguisher’ by experts.Then live demonstrations were staged during which some passengers operated fire extinguishers and put out fire.A live demonstration was also given on ‘how to escape from a coach’.Passengers were taught on how to open the emergency exit window and jump out of a coach in case of fire or other emergencies.
A lot of passengers and railway staff gathered and benefited from this training program-cum- demonstrations.Railway passengers appreciated this initiative taken by the Railway.
