There were severe power cuts in Tamil Nadu lasting up to four to six hours. Now the situation has been improved drastically across Tamil Nadu with the three new units going online at Vallur,North Chennai1 and2,together producing nearly 2,000MW of the total capacity of 2,200MW. The shortage, which was around 2,500MW, came down to 750MW.The demand is on the rise as the temperature increases.

Only the new unit at Mettur is not operational. The 600MWcapacity plant is under maintenance and is expected to be operational by March 27 or 28. Once this plant starts generation, the entire shortage can be wiped out.

The joint venture Vallur unit achieved near full capacity and TNEB got more than 350MW. Sourcing of power from private producers in northern and eastern states touched 937MW.
