Transport Department - Mulling over cancellation & Suspension of Licenses and Auto Permits

The transport department has been poised 56 auto driver’s permits and also 31 licenses have been perched.

Auto drivers, who are under suspension, will not be allowed to driver for about 10 days. As it is more rein in, we have involved in more permits suspension instead of collecting the fine amounts, said Vijay Raj, Joint Transport Commissioner.

About 170 grievance calls have been received by the department against the rash driving of the auto drivers. We are having the practice of calling the public back, in order to get a confirmation. Nearly 37 complainants didn’t attend the call, hence we are requesting full public support in order to facilitate actions on the auto drivers, Raj added.

During the weekend, the transport officials involved in performing surprise checks at Egmore, Koyambedu and Central railway station. Officials have been teamed into three groups so as to monitor the auto drivers in these places, said the official.

Over the proclamation of new auto fares in August 2013, the department has brings in several measures to regulate auto drivers. Even trailer trucks have been employed to pluck auto rickshaws on the blemish, and psychologists were been engaged to give counseling on genuine earnings to the auto drivers.

The government survey reveals that about 80% of auto drivers have regulated meters.
