The power scarcity in the city is increase by more than 1200 MW in the past three years. This condition has led to increased power cut across places including Chennai. In Tamil Nadu, there will be a usual demand for power of 12000 MW, but the power generation meets only 11000 MW. The state government aims to balance this difference by making power shutdown. But, this being summer season, the need for power is increased to 13000 MW and 14000 MW which has in turn created a huge difference between demand and supply.
