Further to the introduction of Mobile Number Portability in January 2011, nearly 100 million mobile subscribers i.e. 11 per cent of the entire country’s population are observed to have ported their mobile networks from one to another. It was on May 2014 that the count reached 100 million, says telecom regulatory authority of India. This population counts to nearly 11 per cent of the total population of mobile subscribers.

Under the MNP facility, mobile users can port their numbers from one network to the other, however, there will be no change in mobile number. Charges for this mobile port facility is just Rs 19 which is the lowest cost in the world. During the initial days of the service launch in 2011, the rejection request for porting was 40 per cent. This is now brought down to 11 per cent currently.
