Initially the project ‘Go Solar’ has been over welcomed at the Schools and now it has formed a high stipulation for alternative power flow in schools across the State.

The Lions Club District 324 A1 has initiated a project on establishing solar channels in Schools at a cost of Rs.2 Crores has come to an end.

During the course of the last year, the district has been assisted in installing solar channels for more than 70 edifying institutions and for 5 chief wellbeing centres.

Even though we have come close to our target of accomplishing the installation of solar channels in 75 school institutions, we are continuously receiving extra applications from schools that are in need of such power plants, says G. Ahmed Sharif, project chairman.

The basic criteria for a school to have a solar power plant are, it should have a G+2 building and not much of trees in its proximity, he added.

We are contributing nearly Rs.50, 000 for every power plant from the district’s grants and for the five years maintenance period will be taken care by the Lions Club, said Lion K. Balachandra Reddy, district governor.

These alternative power substitutes have helped the schools to surge over frequent power-cuts and brighten up the classrooms. Especially, it brings down the power bill, he said.
