In Chennai, the process on desilting of congested storm water drains will start soon.
Our target is to desilt drains on nearly all the roads and finish up the task by 31 July, say officials of the Chennai Corporation.
During the meeting conducted by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy, he ordered his officials to sheer barren stretches of about 1,400km of storm water drains across the city.
The civic body’s aim is to put their entire effort in about 15 zones wrapping 426 square km across the Chennai city.
Along with the desilting process, this year many additional works will also get covered that includes deterrence of accretion of silt, debris, sewage and solid waste in the storm water depletion.
For the past few years, the process of preclusion of the sewage flow is storm water depletion has been in play. Yet on the other hand, many illicit sewage creeks in storm water drains have augmented in several vicinities, thus making the desilting process more defiant, said an official.
Generally, we will finish up the desilting process of storm water drains well before the September month to deal with the northeast heavy rain.
Addressing of edifices to thwart amassing of silt has previously originated on few roads. The state of roads and taps on many roads lying to barrage will be superior by this year, said a corporation official.
