Chennai Metro Rail Project: Some interesting tidbits!

Public service on the elevated corridor of 10 km between Koyambedu & Alandur is scheduled to start in October.
- Total number of trains plying is 42. 9 trains are imported from Brazil and the balance 33 will be transported from Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, where the Brazil Company has set up a manufacturing plant.
- The length of the train is 90 metres. Each coach length is 22.5 metres.
- 1200 passengers can travel in a train.
- Average speed of the train will be 34 km per hour.
- The trains can be run up to a speed of 80 km per hour.
- Duration of the train stopping at each station is 30 seconds.
- 89 Escalators will be provided on the elevated corridors.33 electric cranes will also be available.
- Service time will be between 5.00 AM till 12.00 Midnight.
