Senior officials said that, the authorities have intended to replace the standard black and white color of the voter identity cards with trendy multi-colors and planned to issue them during the end of this month.
But still, the accurate design of the multi-color cards is not yet confirmed. Also, the authorities confirmed that the colored cards will be delivers only for the new voters.
Previously, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh have resolute the issuance of colored voter cards under the name of Elector’s Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).
Contrasting to the old cards which are laminated, the new cards would be geared up of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Tender has been already bided for printing EPICs in TamilNadu and finally two vendors have been chosen by the authorities. An addition of 14 lakh voters will be added to the list after the review of the final electoral rolls for this fiscal year. Authorities confirmed that all new voters will get the colored voter cards.
Once the final decision on the design of the cards is approved, the vendors will be served with the soft copies of the fresh cards for the purpose of printing it.
Old card holders have been asked to continue with the same, since it is not feasible to issue the new cards for about 5.5 Crore voters, officials said.
