A mega 1000 crore liquefied natural gas terminal project has been planned to be built at Kattupalli in the out skirts of Chennai, near Ennore. The project is a joint venture of Indian Oil Corporation, a public sector Navarantna organization and Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited, a Tamilnadu government enterprise to promote Industry in Tamilnadu. The project includes establishment of re-gasified facility and 1000 megawatt power project. MoU for this has been by B M Bansal, Chairman, Indian Oil Coproration and Rajeev Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries, Government of Tamilnadu in presence of Kalaignar Karunanidhi, Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.
The project is expected to be completed in the next five year. Upon commissioning of the project it is expected to process 20 Million Cubic meter of Gas per day. The gas is expected to be obtained from Gulf Countries. for which discussion have been initiated according to the Chief of IOC.
Apart from this The Tamilnadu Government through SIPCOT has signed MoU for setting up Industrial park in Manamadurai and another for Tyre facility project in Sriperumpudur.
