The leading bus manufacturing company Ashok Leyland has planned to manufacture battery-run buses from the next year.
The Managing Director of Ashok Leyland, Mr. Vinod K. Dasari informed about this to the reporters at Chennai.
Ashok Leyland occupied the 4th place in the world in the manufacture of buses.
Following the Prime Minister Mr. Modi’s latest scheme, ‘Make in India’, Ashok Leyland has planned to manufacture electric buses running on battery. This will create less pollution.
The buses can run up to a distance of 200 km once the battery is fully charged.
However, the manufacturing of battery-run buses is costlier. A single bus will cost Rs. 2 Crores to Rs. 3 Crores for manufacture.
As this plan is intended for public welfare, the Managing Director informed that he expected financial support from the central government and Britain.
