Test-run of electric buses in January 2018 in Chennai

The Chennai Metro Transport Corporations has been operating different types of buses for the public convenience - ordinary, deluxe, and air-conditioned. MTC has planning to operate battery-driven electric buses in Chennai with a view to reducing the pollution and also the high expenses on fuel. The officials of MTC are in the process to get the licence for the same.

The MTC officials explained that it is planned to conduct a test-run of 250 electric buses in the 1st Phase of this plan. The electric buses will have 2 CCTV cameras, firefighting equipment, GPS, and automatic operating doors. Each bus will have 3 interconnected battery sets. Each battery set will contain 26 batteries. When a single battery set is charged fully, it is possible to travel up to 50 km.

Test-runs are to be conducted in sections of T.Nagar, Broadway, and Tambaram. Special training will be given to the drivers.
