Chennai rains remain on the backfoot as deep depression moves further away

Chennai rains have been on the passenger seat for the past one week. In fact, the city has remained completely dry during this period. Before that, the effects of Cyclone Ockhi were seen over Chennai, because of which the region experienced heavy rains for a couple of days.

Thereafter, the system moved towards Kerala and Lakshadweep, furthermore moving towards the Arabian Sea. Eventually, it recurved towards Gujarat region resulting in the reduction of rains over Chennai.

Usually, during the month of December, such weather systems getting closer to the Tamil Nadu coast, cause vigorous weather changes in the form of rains over the state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. However, currently, no such weather system has been affecting the weather over Chennai due to which, rains have remained on the back foot.

Meanwhile, a deep depression does persist over central Bay of Bengal, but, it is expected to remain far away from Chennai. In fact, the system is moving further northwestwards, inching towards Andhra Pradesh, sparing Chennai and the entire state of Tamil Nadu completely.

During the Northeast Monsoon season, even without the presence of a significant weather system, localized weather activity does take place over Chennai. However, if such weather systems are present away from the Tamil Nadu coast, they tend to pull the moisture towards themselves, suppressing the chances of any rainfall.

Thus during the next few days, the Tamil Nadu capital will continue to witness warm and humid weather conditions. The maximum temperatures will set during the next fewle in the late 20s and may even cross the 30-degree mark on some occasions. Any significant rainfall activity is not in sight for Chnnai as of now, which may cause the temperatures to remain on the higher side.
