To operate cycle sharing system in Chennai a China based company has also submitted bid now

The news that a Chinese company has also submitted its bid to operate cycle sharing system in Chennai has been the subject of discussion for many now.

It is now said that soon in Chennai we might get some Chinese touch in this cycle sharing system due to the above mentioned reason.

According to a higher official belonging to Chennai Corporation great interests have been shown both by Indian as well as China based company in operating the cycle sharing system. He also spoke about how the evaluation of bids is going on and soon a company would be chosen.

This official further hinted that it is in the hands of the service provider to increase the number of cycles plus parking lots for these cycles. As many as 278 cycle parking slots have been identified and as many as 4976 bicycles have been considered in the feasibility study.

All the investment would be carried out by the potential private firm and corporation of Chennai would not spend any money in this cycle sharing project. Minimum rent would be considered as the main factor and the cycle sharing project would be given to the firm that fixes minimum rent for the cycles. This was also confirmed by the higher official. The good news is this cycle sharing project would be rolled out before the end of April and it would be superb.

For the purpose of providing last mile connectivity cycle sharing slots would be making its presence felt in places near schools, colleges, metro rail stations plus near bus terminus, parks etc. It is worthy to mention that GPS fitted to these cycles would help in monitoring these cycles from getting stolen etc. Those who do not have a smart phone need not worry because conventional locking system is also available for these customers apart from the QR codes to lock and unlock the cycles for safety.

Smart cards would be provided to the customers so that they could pay their rent amount using this card. Civic body has done superbly in creating bicycle tracks at Sivananda Road, DGS. Dinakaran Road etc and at select roads in Chennai markings are made for the bicycles.

Currently cycle tracks of 17 km have been created for a cost of Rs 36 lakh and this would be expanded. 

In order to curtail the motorists entering the cycle tracks corporation of Chennai would soon be installing road separators also. It is brought out that this road separators would be installed wherever the road width permits.
