The multiple facets of A. Vellayan

A. Vellayan belongs to Murugappa family. He serves as the Executive Chairman of Murugappa Group in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was born on 9th January 1953. He also serves as the Chairman of Coromandel International Limited and EID Party (India) Ltd. Furthermore, he is the Director of AMM Educational Foundation and Kanoria Chemicals and Industries Ltd., and the Chairman of Fertilizer Association of India.
He did his diploma studies in Industrial Administration in Aston University, UK. He then took up a Master’s Degree program in Business Studies at the University of Warwick Business School, UK. He was offered the Doctor of Science by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Coimbatore.
He has also served as the Vice President of the Federation of Indian Export Organization, as a member of Board of Governors, Doon School, President of ICC, India, President of All India Cycle Manufacturers’ Association, Director of EXIM Bank, and the Director of Indian Overseas Bank.
Pertaining to acquisition of Sabero Organics by Coromandel International in 2011, Mr. Vellayan was charged as an insider by SEBI in May 2015.
Recently, on 31st January 2018, he was given the Chairman position in the Society and Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode.
