No more traffic jams hereafter near the popular MIOT hospital. The Mount - Poonamallee High Road at Manapakkam in Chennai would see many motorists driving smoothly without any problems. The reason for this is the bridge across Adyar River is widened now from 19m to 31m and that is fantastic.

An amount of Rs 17 crores has been spent on this widening and now there are 2 more lanes added to the previous 4 lanes. It must be noted that four of the 6 lanes are now 3.5 m in width and would be used for buses. Two metre wide footpaths present at the both sides of the bridge with handrails, bollards and lighting are superb.

In the past people found crossing this bridge very tough. In another two weeks of time the widened bridge across Adyar River in Manapakkam would be opened formally and people would be able to use it. Dusty pathways have been replaced by approach road of 150m length that is constructed on the both sides of the bridge. There are few works in pending now like landscaping plus installation of signage.

According to an official it is now clear that modern signage would be installed along the bridge and it would help the motorcyclists to have an easy drive. The official later spoke about how the area surrounding the approach road would be developed with landscaping and trees.

In the past decade many IT companies and commercial establishments have established in this Mount-Poonamallee road is known. This has resulted in heavy traffic here in this stretch as Guindy is connected to Porur etc. Chennai Convention Centre present here often attracts many people and this also increases the traffic and there are times when the traffic has gone out of control also.

An official belonging to metro wing of state highways highlighted that the work regarding widening began at the end of the year 2015.
