Many news have been coming in the recent times regarding metro rail in Chennai. The latest news that has now emerged is as many as 3000 residents belonging to places near Nanganallur in south Chennai have signed petition. The main objective of this is to reduce the metro rail fares.
People living in the localities such as Alandur, Madipakkam, Palavanthangal, Adambakkam, Kilkattalai etc signed petition to reduce the metro rail fares. This has attracted the attention of many now. It is now said that atleast 5000 people would be signing petition soon.
A resident spoke about how after getting the signatures of 5000 people the petition would be sent to the managing director of CMRL and that would be by 12th of May 2018.
He also hinted that the residents would be meeting chief minister regarding this reduction in metro fares and this would be done after meeting the officials belonging to CMRL.
It is known that travel options were limited by the lack of bus stops on GST Road. So when the Chennai Metro Rail Limited was extended till Nanganallur the residents in this and nearby localities felt happy. Alandur that is 3km from Nanganallur is where the bus stops now. This is highly inconvenient for those in Nanganallur etc.
Inspite of the presence of metro rail stop in Nanganallur, the residents are forced to take bus from Alandur due to high metro rail fares. So the residents of Nanganallur and its nearby places have signed petition to reduce this fare.
According to Mr Rama Rao of traffic and transportation forum, state government would address this issue of reducing metro rail fares.
