On 23rd May 2018 the results of SSLC examinations in the state of Tamil Nadu were declared and it made great news is well known. Many schools began admission for plus 1 on the same day itself.

The latest news now is the students prefer commerce, mathematics- computer science more when compared to the biology group. There are many reasons for this and NEET is quoted as the main reason.

Headmaster of MCC Higher Secondary School, Mr. Manohar, expressed his thoughts and spoke about how on the first day after the announcement of the results the students wanted to join commerce or mathematics- computer science groups more. He then spoke about how biology group is losing its sheen now and students do not want to take up biology due to NEET fear among the students.  In this school over 35 students got above 450 marks and as many as 20 students took up commerce subject. He highlighted that except few students others opted for computer science group.

One important point to be noted is till few years ago there was equal preference given by the students for biology as well as computer science groups and this has changed now. The head master then spoke about how the block on the students mind regarding the toughness of NEET is making the students to opt for commerce and not for biology streams.

Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School is a popular school in Chennai. The founder and principal of this school Mr. Vijayan spoke about how till 2017 the top ranking students preferred biology group in their plus one and how in 2018 the students opt for commerce and mathematics- computer science groups. By opting for biology group the students have to prepare for two exams and that might also be the reason why the students go for other groups. This was confirmed by some headmasters. Students who have got more than 490 out of 500 opt for biology group with the ambition of becoming doctors in the future. They are very confident of clearing NEET. Peer pressure was also cited as one of the reasons why students opt for commerce streams in their plus one.
