Chennai Corporation would soon be installing fire fighting systems at CHCs

Corporation of Chennai has been making sensational news in the recent times for many reasons. The latest news that has come out now is soon corporation of Chennai would be fixing fire fighting systems at the CHCs or Community Health Centres run by it. Residents of Sholinganallur and Perungudi could feel happy that the CHC’s coming in these places would be the first to get these fire fighting systems. Fantastic isn’t it!!

It is said that the buildings department of civic body has issued Rs 72.72 tenders for fire fighting system plus medical gas system and it would be at the upcoming 100 bed hospital at Perungudi. For the upcoming 30 bedded hospital at Sholinganallur, Rs 44.50 lakh tender has been issued for the above said purpose.

For putting off the fire quickly, fire fighting system would be installed and these would have sprinklers, fire hoses plus water storage facilities etc. According to an official belonging to building department, best system could be fixed at the remaining 13 centres after the fire fighting systems get installed at the two above mentioned places in Chennai.  In another 2 months of time period, tenders for fire fighting systems in 4 other centres like Thiruvottiyur, Madhavaram, Manali and Kodambakkam etc would be issued.

It must not be forgotten that in September 2017, first bench of High Court of Madras grabbed many eyeballs when it said that all the new hospitals must comply with the fire safety norms. Now this move to set up fire fighting systems in the CHCs is based on the high court’s order. In the month of March 2018, HC of Madras granted another 3 months to the state government to ensure fire safety systems at all the hospitals is known. The month of July is the deadline for fixing fire fighting systems in all the CHCs and that would be impossible due to lack of time.
