Parents say that the new text books sold for this academic year for classes 1, 6, 9 and 11 are 60% costlier. In phased manner, the state government is revamping text books. In the academic year 2017-18, books for the aforesaid classes were revamped and thus resulted in surge in price. From Monday, sales of class 11 textbooks have begun for private schools.

A batch of class-11 textbooks for Math-Biology class is priced Rs 1000 of which only 50% of the money had to be spent for the previous version textbooks. Especially, rates of Math, Chemistry and Physics have surged a lot of the range 100%, parents claim with displeasure.

In the phase of revamping the syllabus, the school education department had entirely changed the outlook of books.

One of the private school principals said the new textbooks are very colorful and friendly to children. And it is true that the prices have increased.

In spite of the increase in price, the books are sold for 30% lesser rate when set against the other books sold in the market.

The book quality and total number of pages have increased and thus has resulted in increase in rate. This surge in price is unavoidable, say Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation and Educational Services Corporation officials.

There are QR codes on these textbooks and they need to be printed only in high-quality papers. We have given importance towards line spacing and font size and images, say officials.

In addition to the high quality of book cover users, we have also laminated the covers so as to prevent damage. In fact, this lamination is given after 12 long years!
