A list of the ranking of the 87 smart cities in the country has been prepared and released. Central Housing and Urban Development Department has informed that the Chennai Metro City Corporation has secured the 37th place in the above list.
The ranking list of the 87 smart cities was prepared on behalf of the above department and released. The ranking is based on the extent of implementation of planned expenditure on different projects, and the execution and functioning.
As per this, the cities of Nagpur and Wadera have secured the 1st place. 12 smart cities have not found a place in this list. The Chennai Metro City corporation has secured the 37th place. Coimbatore Corporation has secured the 14th place and Vellore has secured the 32nd place. Salem has secured the 35th place. 6 projects have been completed in the Coimbatore city. Tenders have been floated for 7 projects. However, it is gathered that the projects taken up in the Chennai Metro City have not been completed as scheduled.
The Chennai Metro City Corporation Assistant Commissioner (Projects) Govindarao explained in this regard that the ranking of the smart cities is based on the implementation of projects and the judicious usage of the funds. 3 projects have been completed in this year. Another 16 projects are in progress. Plans are afoot to undertake additional projects this year as well. So, it may be expected that the ranking position of the Chennai Metro City is likely to improve in the next year’s ranking list.
