This piece of news would surely bring huge happiness on the faces of many badminton lovers in Tamil Nadu. It is now said that a badminton academy would be set up by the government of Tamil Nadu. This academy would be making its presence felt in Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University campus. This was announced by chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy on Thursday, 28th June 2018. An amount of Rs 10 crores would be spent in setting up of this superb badminton academy. In addition to this the TN government would also play its role in launching a programme that would equip sportspersons to excel in international tournaments.
The chief minister grabbed many eyeballs in the Assembly on Thursday when he spoke about how there were many badminton players in the state of TN capable of winning medals in many international events. He highlighted that the proposed academy would be highly beneficial to these above mentioned players. As many as 50 sports persons including differently-able persons would be first identified by the government and later they would be trained so that they would be able to win medals in the international tournaments.
The chief minister later explained about procuring the equipment plus providing training in abroad nations and helping the athletes to take part in the competitions etc and how amount of Rs 5 crores would be spent annually for this purpose. At an estimated cost of Rs 17.35 crores, a District Sports Complex equipped with many facilities such as athletic track, gym and swimming pool would be constructed in Vellore.
