As per what data from the state selection committee states, about one-third of MBBS and BDS course applicants have opted for going on a break or to study for NEET examination or selected any other bachelor’s degree.

Through single-window counselling, over 25,417 students had applied for government seats. Of this count, 9,879 of them had cleared their class-12 exam in 2017. Coming on to the management seat applicants, out of the total applicants of 18,915, two-fifth of them (counting to 8,319) belong to previous batches.

The state feared that with the implementation of NEET examination, as the medical admission criterion would get strict, a lot of students will lose their dream of getting medical admission for another 5 years. This however is not true as students are not willing to let go of their dreams. They rather choose to go on a break for NEET preparation. Speaking to one of the class-12 biology teacher, she says 6 of her students belonging to 2016-17 batch had scored above 400 in NEET.
