Anna University in Chennai had released the rank list for engineering admission through single window counselling is known. The amazing piece of news is only 1000 students belonging to CBSE or Central Board of Secondary Examinations has made it to the top 25000 ranks. In this year there were as many as 7500 students from CBSE who have applied for the engineering admission. This is 36 percent increase in the number of CBSE applicants from the previous year. The reason why more CBSE students applied this year for engineering was due to tough JEE Advanced examination and NEET.

As many as 1.4 lakh students applied for engineering admissions in the last year and in this year it has come down to one lakh students. When compared to state board students, CBSE students stands better chance due to their overall performance being better. It is worthy to mention here that 10 % of CBSE students in TN scored 90 % and above but just 3% of state board students scored 90% or above. It is now revealed that the Joint Seat Allocation Authority or JoSAA might appeal against the Madras High Court order putting on hold JEE Advanced evaluation.

An educational consultant, expressed his views and spoke about how for blocking the seats in top engineering colleges, the students belonging to CBSE do not mind paying Rs 5000 at the TNEA counselling. He also highlighted that once the CBSE students get admission to IIT’s they do not report at the colleges. As a result of this vacancies were created in the Anna University seats and deserving state board students were denied the chance to study in these top engineering colleges. More seats in top colleges in the state of TN would go vacant due to the uncertainty over JoSAA counselling 2018.
