All the Gmail users are alerted regarding the new feature on Google Mail that can be easy for online crooks to pave their own way for scams, says a media report.

Recently, in April 2018, Google had launched many new designs in its mail including brand new interface and features of which snooze alert for new messages, automatic smart reply generation, self-destruction of mails on Confidential Mode mailing, etc. were a few. Of all, the Confidential Mode feature is touted among experts.

In the latest Gmail redesign, an alert on potential threat is noted by the Department of Homeland Security or DHS. Its spokesperson said they have approached Google for informing them regarding the intelligence pertaining to the Google services and contribute towards improving towards mutual interests.

In the Confidential Mailing feature, users will have to click on a link for gaining access to messages. For Gmail users, a hint of expiration of mail will be shown as well.

If you`re a Gmail user using the official Google Mail website then the "Confidential Email" appears when you click to open it. It shows a date for when the content will expire and informs the users that the email can`t be forwarded or downloaded. In case of Gmail users who view messages in the shoes of a third party client or a non-Gmail users, the scenario will be different where rather than the message getting appeared in the browser, users need to click a button for gaining access to the mail. This is where the security threat arises.

In the new redesigned Gmail interface, it is easy for scammers to share fake confidential mail alerts and users can easily share their sensitive details on trust.

Gmail is however very ardent about ensuring maximum safety of user details and personal information. Hence, a machine learning algorithm is developed for identifying scam and phishing activities by cyber criminals, said a Google Spokesperson.

With phishing scams, a lot of cyber criminals trick victims and steal their sensitive details.
