The price of the non-subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinder has suddenly increased by Rs. 35.50 in Chennai.
The public sector oil organizations such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum supply 2 types of LPG cooking gas cylinders – 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder exclusively for domestic/home cooking needs and 19 kg cylinder for the commercial use.
Though there are 2 categories of LPG cooking gas cylinders supplied for domestic/home cooking – subsidised (by the government at lower prices) and non-subsidised (at higher prices). However, in Tamil Nadu, only non-subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinders for homes are sold. After buying this non-subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinder, the subsidy amount will get credited in the customer’s bank savings account.
The price of this domestic LPG cooking cylinder varies depending on the price of the crude oil in the international market. Accordingly, during the month of July, the price of the subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinder for domestic use was Rs. 484.67. Presently, the price has gone up by Rs. 1.75 and is Rs. 486.42. At the same time, the price of the non-subsidised cooking gas cylinder has gone up by Rs. 35.50 and has gone up from Rs. 770.50 to Rs. 806.
The subsidy amount is Rs. 218. This amount is credited to the customer’s bank savings account. The price of this cylinder in the major cities in India – Delhi – Rs. 789.50, Kolkata (West Bengal) – Rs. 817.50, Mumbai (Maharashtra) – Rs. 764.50. In Chennai, the commercial LPG cooking gas cylinders were sold at Rs. 1424.50 during July. This month (August) the price has increased by Rs. 43.50 to Rs. 1468.
