A 20 bed R&R (rest and relaxation) facility would be set up at the Chennai airport metro station by AAI or Airport Authority of India. A consultant to design the retiring rooms has been appointed by AAI. It is known that the retiring rooms of the airport were destroyed when the old domestic terminal was pulled down for the sake of building integrated terminal as a part of phase 2 expansion of the project. There are many passengers who arrive from other cities at Chennai airport to board connecting flights to their destination. The retiring rooms help these passengers. In a reply to union minister of state for shipping and finance minister Pon. Radhakrishnan, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, civil aviation minister said AAI is planning to fast track the process.

It must be noted that on 18th May 2018, Mr. Pon. Radhakrishnan wrote to civil aviation minister Mr. Suresh Prabhu seeking retiring rooms for transit domestic and international passengers at the Chennai airport. The civil aviation minister replied that AAI would provide 50 twin bed sharing hotel like accommodation as a part of modernization works that would be taken up at the airport in Chennai. The civil aviation minister highlighted that a 20 bed retiring room would be set by AAI on fast track basis. As per a senior AAI official, a memorandum of understanding or MoU might be signed between AAI and CMRL and the details are to be worked out.

Founded in 1995, AAI plays an important role in creation, upgrading, maintaining and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India is known.
