The news that has come out is in order to float a tender for starting the long pending 262km Green Expressway between Chennai and Bengaluru, NHAI or National Highway Authority of India is preparing now. It is now said that 95 percent of land acquisition has been completed. This has been confirmed by the officials now.  It was in the year 2011 the Union Surface Ministry proposed 6- lane project so that the time of travel from Chennai to Bengaluru would be reduced by 3 hours. The amazing piece of information is the vehicles using this 6-lane Expressway could go up to speed of 120 kmph.

There is already a 365 km road between Chennai and Bengaluru and this 6-lane expressway would be parallel to this. From places coming under both TN as well as Karnataka, NHAI have started acquiring land of around 3000 hectares is known.

An engineer belonging to NHAI spoke his heart out regarding this land acquisition. He spoke about how inspite of the 6-lane project getting sanctioned 7 years ago, acquisition of lands was very difficult. He also explained how certificates are needed from the environment and PWD as the stretch would pass through many water bodies.  He later highlighted how the volume of vehicles travelling through the existing roads would reduce due to this new project. This project would also prevent heavy vehicles from entering the city. A civic activist and president of consumer protection council, Mr. Mohanram, urged the official to proceed with the work on the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway. Mr. Mohanram later explained how the number of vehicles is increasing and how the focus should be on the road infrastructure.  He then threw light on the fact that further delaying the work could result in the cost of the project becoming more.

Project director, NHAI, Mr. Athipathu, later spoke about the various issues that were present in the acquisition of lands in the beginning for this project. He then explained about how necessary lands were acquired for this project and how the land owners were compensated enough under the Land Acquisition Act. He finally hinted about the tender that would be floated soon regarding this project.
