According to sources, at times of property purchase or land mortgaging, the EC will be necessary. This certificate contains all the related transactions pertaining to a specific property over a stipulated time period. The entire information about earlier transactions will be included so that the applicant will know who the present owner of the property is. Usually, encumbrance certificate for the past 3 years will be usually obtained prior to investing in any kind of property. About one week time will be required for getting the certificate for one plot, said another official. For the first year, a charge of Rs 30 will be charged and for the every additional year, Rs 10 will be charged. For the signed encumbrance certificate, a sum of Rs 100 will be collected.

According to the government data of 2017-18, a total of 30.78 lakh EC are rolled out, producing a sum of Rs 141.80 crore. EC through QR code will remain to be a paid service, they add.
