The unions of the motor vehicle industry employees are observing a 1-day strike today all over the country in protest against the revision in the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill and also demand to take back this proposal. The strike commenced on Monday midnight and concludes tonight at 12.00 midnight..
As all the major unions are participating in the strike, the private buses and autos are not operating. As some of the employee unions in the state government transport corporations are also participating in this strike, the public transport system has been greatly disturbed.
In the strike being observed today in Tamil Nadu, various transport employees unions, vehicle owners, and auto drivers are participating.. So, many lakhs of vehicles are not operating today.
Because of this strike, the attendance of the students today at school has been adversely affected in major cities including the Chennai Metro. Only a lesser number of state government transport corporation buses are being operated.
In Puducherry, the government and private sector buses, lorries, autos, and vans are not operating. Only, a lesser number of Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation buses are operating. So, many of the private schools have declared a holiday today (Tuesday, 7th August).
