The construction of a park in Chennai Mandaveli is nearing completion and the corporation plans to open the park for public in the first week of September. The new park was named as RK Nagar Poonga as confirmed by the Parks department of Greater Chennai Corporation.
After several months of delay the park’s construction over a land of 17,350 square feet was started in the month of July, 2018. Children play area, walking zone, badminton court and green zones are raised inside the park with a total budget of Rs 73.58 lakh. A gym with basic equipment and machineries are planned along with a compositing pit collecting dry leaves converted to form manure for plants in the park.
In the areas of Mylapore there are more than 20 unused plots considered to be Open Space Reservation OSR lands. But the official Website of Chennai Corporation shows only two plots along the sides of Radhakrishnan Salai and Nandanam.
Natraj R, MLA of Mylapore constituency told there will be gradual progression identifying such plots for converting them into various general public usages. The local welfare associations along with Chennai Corporation are expected to take care of the park with proper maintenance and other facilities.
