As India celebrates its 72nd Independence Day on August 15. At this time, let`s talk about its history and why this particular day was declared to be the day of independence to our country India.

The words from the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was that the country with get its independence when the whole world sleeps at the midnight hours on 15th August 1947.

On his night, the Indian national flag was hosted above the Lahori Gate of Red Fort in Delhi. This symbolised the independence of Indian Independence. So why was it this day in specific? Let`s look at why:

On 30th June 1948, Lord Mountbatten had wanted the British parliament to give away the entire power. If this happened as per his instructions and waited till June 1948, perhaps, as per the words of C. Rajagopalachari, there will have been no kind of power left for getting transferred. So, he advised the powers be given away earlier in August 1947.

There will be no kind of blood shed, he affirmed by taking this initiative to prepone independence.

As per the inputs given by Mountbatten, the British House of Commons had passed Indian Independence Bill on 4th of July 1947 and this was passed within a fortnight. So with that the British era came to an end on 15th of August 1947.
