People of Chennai would have been familiar with the Presidency College. This college was founded in the year 1840 and it is an arts, science and law college. It is also one of the oldest arts colleges of the government in India. This Presidency College in Chennai is now making news.

It is known that ONGC or Oil and Natural Gas Corporation was established in 1956 and is largest oil and gas exploration and production Company in India.  As a part of the CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility programme of ONGC, 5 classrooms of the geology department of the Presidency College have turned into smart classrooms now. The financial support is provided by this ONGC.

It is simply superb to mention that the 5 classrooms of the geology department of this prestigious college have projectors, screens, ceiling mount kits plus HDMI cables, laptops, PA systems, electrical accessories and installations. Adopting modern and effective multimedia based teaching methods is very important. These 5 classrooms would enable the geology department to achieve this. The good news is ONGC has given an amount of Rs 8.09 lakhs to the geology department.

ONGC has been doing tremendously in contributing towards CSR programmes in TN and it has spent more than Rs 30 crores. This was in the last seven financial years. ONGC has contributed a huge amount of Rs 2364 crores as royalty and VAT to TN states exchequer. Through its special component plans and scholarship schemes, ONGC has been providing great support for the welfare of most deserving sections of the society.
