The state government department of food has accepted the demand from the public and has decided to provide replacement ration card at a price of Rs. 20.
In Tamil Nadu, smart ration cards have been distributed carrying Aadhar card details from April 2017.
Presently, 1.97 Crore families have been issued the smart ration cards. However, several cards carry errors in the names of the family leader as well as the members. The people who shift residences change with their new address through the internet. For those people who carried out corrections as above, replacement card was distributed at the government e-service Centres. The fee was Rs. 20. However, the staff at the E-service centres demanded more money, the Food Department took a decision to stop this service over a few months ago.
Several residents have approached the of the regional offices concerned requesting replacement ration cards. Hence, the food department has decided to issue replacement ration cards at a cost of Rs. 20.
An official from the Department of Food explained in this regard that it was earlier informed that ration cards cannot be used as residence address proofs. Still, it is understood that the ration card is being demanded to be shown as address-proof. So, replacement ration cards will be issued at a cost of Rs. 20.
