The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of heavy rains in the coastal areas covering from Ramanathapuram to Chennai today (20th November) and tomorrow (21st November).
The Associate General Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, Balachandran, shared in this regard that the low-pressure format, which developed over the southeast of the Bay of Bengal, has drifted towards southwest direction. This may intensify and transformed into a depression zone. Further, it may drift towards the delta districts of Tamil Nadu bringing widespread rains.
There are prospects of widespread rains in the districts of Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, and Karaikkal. There are prospects of heavy rains in some places as well.
This rain may gradually spread and move to the northern coastal area districts ad there are prospects of widespread rains from today until tomorrow.
So, the fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in the southwest and west areas of the Bay of Bengal.
Further, an ‘orange alert’ has been issued today to the districts of Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, and Puducherry districts for the prospects of very heavy rains. Similarly, an ‘orange alert’ has been issued tomorrow for the districts of Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Madurai, and Tirunelveli.
Due to the depression zone format, there are prospects of heavy rains from the morning today (Tuesday, 20th November) in the coastal areas covering from Mannar Bay to Vedaranyam, Nagapattinam, and Puducherry.
Further, there are prospects of medium rain on the districts of Thiruvarur, Karaikkal, Puducherry, Mayiladuthirai, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Villupuram, Tindivanam, Chingleput, Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram and the coastal areas of Chennai and there are prospects of heavy rains in a few places listed above.
There are prospects of a heavy downpour from tonight until tomorrow forenoon (Wednesday, 21st November) in the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram and the delta districts.
Post-afternoon tomorrow (21st November), the rains may move away to the other districts adjacent to Chennai district. So, there are prospects of rain from tomorrow afternoon in the districts of Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Salem, Ariyalur, and Perambalur.
Post-night tomorrow, there are prospects of rain in the western districts of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri and the areas in Karnataka state lying adjacent to Tamil Nadu.
