The facility to apply and register or correction of details for Aadhar cards in the 253 BSNL service centres throughout Tamil Nadu.
Aadhar cards are being issued to the Indian Citizens from the year 2010 with the main consideration that all the welfare schemes given by the central and state governments must reach the true and real beneficiary. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has undertaken the responsibility for the registration and distribution of Aadhar cards.
In most other states of India, UIDAI took the action to facilitate printing and distribution of Aadhar cards once the details of the citizens were registered with the agencies approved by it. However, in Tamil Nadu, the state government had emphasized that Aadhar registration must be based on the census data of the citizens.
Hence, the office of the Central Government’s Census in Chennai Besant Nagar undertook the responsibility of registration/distribution of Aadhar cards. However, a lot of procedural difficulties were encountered in this system and the citizens were subjected to extreme hardship.
Subsequently, during October 2016, the registration and correction of Aadhar cards were taken up in the Government E-service centres. As huge crowds gathered for this in the centres, they had to wait quite long in the queues. Advance booking was required for the registration for Aadhar cars and the citizens had to wait for a number of days.
In this scenario, as a measure to simplify the Aadhar registration/correction, UIDAI set up the facility of Aadhar registration facility in around 1400 bank branches and 1500 Post Office Branches.
Now, with a view to simplifying this even further, UIDAI has now joined hands with BSNL. With this, UIDAI has given the approval to set up Aadhar registration facility in 3000 BSNL customer service centres throughout India.
When enquiring about the details of the BSNL services Centres to be set up with this facility, the Chennai Circle BSNL circle representatives, they explained that it is planned to introduce Aadhar facility in 200BSNL customer service centres in the state of Tamil Nadu. Chennai Circle, which includes the districts of Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur, Aadhar facility will be set up in 53 BSNL service centres and accordingly communicated to UIDAI. It is expected that this facility will be set up shortly.
