10000 Buses were operated for the special occasion of Christmas festival from Chennai to the southern districts.
Today being the Christmas day with grand celebrations, 10000 buses have been operated from 21st December till yesterday (24th December) night from Chennai to the southern Tamil Nadu districts.
The transport officials explained in this regard:
To celebrate Christmas, the people had started traveling from Friday (21st December). So, apart from the regular 2300 buses operated on Saturdays and Sunday, 500 additional buses were operated.
As the Pongal festival falls on Tuesday in the coming year, to facilitate passengers travelling from Chennai, 12000 buses will be operated from Chennai from 10th January to 13th January, and then to facilitate the return journey for the passengers, 10000 buses will be operated daily for 3 days from 15th January from the other cities to Chennai and other places.
In order to facilitate the long-distance traveller to book in advance, a special website –
www.tnstc.in is made available. For the Chennai residents, to facilitate the advance booking, 29 special booking counters are to be set up after 9th January.
In order to reduce the possible heavy traffic congestion in Chennai Metro City, 5 temporary bus termini will be set up in the city. An official announcement will be made in this regard by the State Minister for Transport shortly.
