Yet to switch to new cable tariff

In spite of implementing the new TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) frameworks for tariff for cable channels in Chennai city yesterday, the Friday, the TV watching experience for Chennaites remained close to normalcy. Customers who use Arasu Cable platform had complaints of a few missing channels, but with those using private cable connections such as SCV, Polimer or TCCL, there was no complaint of such missing channel of any kind.
Migrating to the new system has seen a lot of resistance and objections from the Local Cable Operators (LOCs), especially to switch to it overnight within very short time period. Hence, the operators had no other way than to provide all the channels like before. Sources say it may take longer period for the transition to take place – relax, hurry not!
DTH players
DTH providers such as Tata Sky, Dish TV, Airtel, etc. have come up with complete list of fresh prices for channels and channel packages. Few other service providers are working out to curate their tariff and packages and in the next few days, the tariff list will be announced.
To all their existing customers who have selected long-term subscription like 6 months or 1 year, these DTH players have given assurance words. According to TRAI rules, each and every subscriber is supposed to get migrated to the new tariff. In case of those who have already selected annual subscription or other long term subscription, the same previously subscribed package can be used as migration will need more time, say officials.
What officials say?
Customers need more time to switch to the new system until which they should continue to stick to their previous packages tentatively. When any customer prefers to opt for a set of channels and targeted towards migrating, the payments will be altered. The change in amount or the balance will be refunded to the account.
In case of new subscribers, they get 1 month subscription following which there will be monthly renewal scheme. This has a lot of confusions though. So, there is no such long-term subscription like 3 months or 6 months or 1 year. As of now, monthly recharge is the only renewal plan offered.
