Reliance Jio tops with 18.8 Mbps 4G download speed

According to data from TRAI, the 4G download speed on Reliance Jio is 18.8 Mbps while the same is 9.5 Mbps on Airtel.

In January last year, Reliance Jio is said to have obtained the maximum download speed of the entire month when set against Airtel. Data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) states that the Jio download speed is 18.8 Mbps whereas on Airtel, it is 9.5 Mbps.

On Vodafone and Idea, similar 4G performance was recorded by TRAI while the merger of these two companies are still underway. The average download speed with these two networks was recorded to be 6.7 Mbps and 5.5 Mbps respectively in January.

As far as the upload speed is concerned, Idea tops the list with 5.8 Mbps speed and the next is Vodafone with 5.4 Mbps. On Idea and Vodafone, the average speed of upload got a spike in January when there was drop in the upload speed in October and December months.

In October, the 4G average upload speed on Idea and Vodafone were 5.9 Mbps and 4.8 Mbps respectively. During last December, these two operators recorded upload speeds  to be 5.3Mbps and 5.1 Mbps respectively.

With the average upload speed of 4.4 Mbps and 3.8 Mbps, Reliance Jio and Airtel have taken away the 3rd and 4th spots.

TRAI identifies the average speed with the help of MySpeed – a real-time based application. This app can be downloaded from iOS or Google PlayStore. On this app, one can easily refer to the average download and upload speeds of mobile networks in India.
