Following DMK chief M. Karunanidhi’s threat to pull out of the UPA, the Congress is sending down three of its ministers to pacify him. Congress leader P. Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad and A.K. Antony are expected in Chennai on Monday. Mr. Azad is Congress in-charge for Tamil Nadu affairs and the others are considered to be close to Mr. Karunanidhi.

Mr. Karunanidhi had lashed out at the Congress for their ‘lukewarm’ response to the Sri Lankan issue. ‘If our demands are not met, it is doubtful whether our ties with the alliance (UPA) will continue...It won`t continue for sure’, he said.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told reporters that the decision on the UN resolution will be taken after taking into consideration the opinions of the UPA allies. ‘The UPA government will take a decision on the vote against Sri Lanka in the UNHRC, later this month, after a meeting with its allies, particularly DMK’, he said.
