The famous and grandly celebrated ‘Chithirai’ festival at Madurai Kallazhagar temple is set to commence on 14th April. The deity of Lord Kallazhagar will leave his abode at 6.00 to 7.00PM on 17th April on the carriage of golden palanquin to Madurai. The function of ‘Edhirsevai’ is set to be performed in the early morning.
The deity of Lord Kallazhagar will enter the river Vaigai on the carriage of golden horse early morning on 19th April. Subsequently, ‘theerhavari’ festival will be celebrated.
On 20th April, the deity of Lord Kallazhagar will be taken on a procession on the carriage of Garuda. On 21st April early morning, the deity of Lord Kallazhagar will be adorned as ‘Mohana Avatharam’. The sacred event of ‘Poopallaku’ is performed the same evening on 21st April.
On 22nd April, the deity of Lord Kallazhagar is set to return to his Abode of Azhagarmalai. The deity of Lord Kallazhagar will reach Azhagrmalai on 23rd April morning.
