The Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of widespread rains in the Chennai Metro City and is likely to continue for 5 more days from Tuesday (today, 23rd July).
It is to be noted that with the rains in the past few days of the heavy downpour has been witnessed in various parts of the city.
On Monday (22nd July), Tambaram received the second-highest amount of rainfall in the State (5 cm).
The maximum rainfall of 7 cm was recorded in after The Nilgiris.
The Chennai Metro city on an average received 4 cm of rainfall.
Various areas in the city and Kanchipuram, including Taramani, Kelambakkam, Mahabalipuram, Adyar, T Nagar, Velacherry and Meenambakkam received at least 2 cm of rain as of 5.30 pm on Monday.
The two weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 7.8 mm and 3.5 mm respectively.
Over the next 48 hours, the city sky is likely to be overcast coupled with few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers in some areas.
The rainfall has led to a drop in the maximum temperatures at both the weather stations by at least 7 degrees Celsius from the normal.
During the day, weather stations at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam received a maximum temperature of 28.1 degree Celsius and 27.9 degree Celsius respectively. In the next 48 hours, the maximum and minimum temperature in the city is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.
Other districts including Tiruvallur, Theni, Coimbatore and Salem also received rainfall on Tuesday. According to RMC, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated over ghat areas in the next 48 hours that will bring rains to The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni and Dindigul.
There are prospects of heavy rain to occur at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu, including Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.
