Tambaram in Chennai has now recorded 15 cm rain on Thursday. The point is this is the highest rains Tambaram had received since the year 2015 when it got floods.
Places like Chromepet, Pallavaram and Selaiyur also got heavy early morning rains between 3 am and 6 am. It must be taken into account that the heavy rains have flooded and damaged the roads in many places like Tambaram East and West, Perungalathur, Theerthangaranai, Sembakkam, Pallavaram, Chromepet, Anakhaputhur, Pammal and Selaiyur. The rains have also resulted in traffic congestion throughout Chennai. The shocking information is many houses belonging to Krishna Nagar and Shakthi Nagar in Tambaram West and Arul Nagar and CST Nagar in Tambaram East were submerged in water.
There was a delay of at least 2 and a half hours for the MTC buses running by Tambaram- Velachery Road because of the deluge. A subway was constructed at a cost of Rs 3.9 crores at Perungalathur in February 2019 and it is now said that this subway got submerged due to heavy rains.
The rains have also resulted in the delay in the services of EMU and express trains as the platforms 3 and 4 in Tambaram railway station was flooded. Only after the authorities cleared the tracks by pumping out the rainwater using motors, train services resumed again. The flooding has also affected the traffic along GST Road. It must be noted that the rainwater had entered into the outpatient department of the government hospital of Chromepet and Sanatorium TB hospital and many patients found it difficult.
