Activities have commenced on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway to widen the section of Sriperumpudhur-Wallajapet 70 km to be a 6-lane highway at a cost of Rs. 1188 Crores.
The project of widening the present 4-lane Chennai-Bengaluru Highway into a 6-lane Highway is already being expedited. A total of 2600 hectares of land have been taken over for this project. Around 100 hectares of land have been taken over in the state of Tamil Nadu alone for this project. The activity of acquiring the required lands has been completed in the states of Andhra and Karnataka.
The widening of the 4-way to 6-way in the section from Sriperumpudhur to Wallajapet covering a distance of 70 km is in progress. Further, 32 bridges are also to be constructed in this express highway.

The central government had announced in 2018 that a new express highway would be construction improving the existing Chennai-Bengaluru Highway. Accordingly, funds have been released now for this project. As the 1st Phase of this project, the 4-lane highway in the section Sriperumpudhur Tollgate to Wallajapet in Tamil Nadu is being converted form 4-lane into 6-lane. The activity of acquiring the lands in this section has been completed.
Presently, the expansion of the road has been taken up. Under the project to construct bridges at important junctions, a bridge of 2 km is to construct in Sriperumpudhur. A target has been set to complete this project in 2 years.
