Shifting of a huge market from one place to another place is not an easy job!
Koyambedu wholesale market is being shifted to Tirumazhisai as many Corona virus positive cases have been reported from this Koyambedu market in the last few days.
It is now revealed that the traders of Koyambedu wholesale market would suspend their business till 10th May 2020 to provide ample time to the authorities to make arrangements at Tirumazhisai. The point is this could have an impact on the vegetables availability and the prices might go up in the next few days.
As per Mr. G. D. Rajasekaran, president, Koyambedu Periya Market Association, the traders were unhappy regarding the sudden closure of Koyambedu wholesale market and shifting to Tirumazhisai due to the threat of Corona virus.
He spoke about the time that was given to them for shifting and mentioned that it was not enough. He added that extra 1 or 2 more days of time would have been better. Information is Koyambedu wholesale market receives 400 to 450 truckloads of vegetables everyday each of 40 to 60 tonnes. He held meeting with 27 associations belonging to this market.
It was later decided by all the associations that they would suspend their business till 10th of May and the associations have sought assurance from the government regarding the basic infrastructure needed at Tirumazhisai.
Mr. Rajasekaran then commented about the need of basic facilities like toilet, parking facilities, accommodation for labourers and security etc. Around 5 days of time would be given for creating basic infrastructure at Tirumazhisai.
For the sake of having talks with the government regarding the makeshift market, the associations have formed a seven member committee. At present, a temporary market is being set up at the Tirumazhisai satellite town and as many as 100 wholesale shops would be set up. This was confirmed by the Tiruvallur collector.
