Increase in Corona virus cases have made south Chennai residents to worry now

For more than a month, south Chennai has remained unaffected by Corona virus cases.

Now, the situation has changed completely and the south Chennai residents are worrying a lot about Corona virus infection as many cases were reported from Valasarawakkam and Adyar zones.

The residents have revealed that the decision to keep the Koyambedu wholesale market opened and lack of social distancing were responsible for spike in the cases.

It must be remembered that 2 weeks back 5 zones comprising south Chennai recorded just 42 Corona virus positive cases. At present, these zones have as many as 365 cases with 312 cases from Valarasarawakkam and Adyar zones. This was as per the data from GCC. The wards in Valarasarawakkam located close to the Koyambedu market are the most Covid-19 affected areas.

A worker from Chennai Corporation mentioned that wards 145 and 148 had the most number of positive cases. Information collected is these wards alone have got more than 2000 families of traders and workers who used to work at the Koyambedu wholesale market.

About 130 positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 5 days from this zone. As on date, the zone has got 45 streets under containment. From localities like Maduravoyal, Ramapuram and Porur many positive cases were also reported.

Among the 15 zones of Chennai Corporation, Adyar has got the highest population is known. There are now 107 positive cases from Adyar. This Adyar zone just last week had just 20 odd positive cases and a vendor from Thiruvanmiyur market tested positive for Corona virus.

It was pointed out by Adyar resident that people should have been more disciplined and the authorities should have taken more care. It was later highlighted by another official that a Velachery based push cart vendor tested positive and he had infected 11 other persons including his family.
